Anything New in Late-Summer Produce Provisioning?

Finding any interesting places to provision fab, late-summer fruit and vegetables? Orange County’s extensive network of farmers markets is a no-brainer for great scores, of course. The organic garden at Ramakrishna Monastery, which I wrote about in Taste of Orange County last growing season, has been supplying us some of the best-ever tomatoes this summer, as well as lipstick-red, ripe jalapeño chilies and giant, super-tender chard. The monastery store is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends; selection varies. Last weekend I lucked into more great produce for sale in my Trabuco Canyon neighborhood—you can see in the photo—deep-red, deeply-ribbed and flavorful costoluto Genovese tomatoes, and new-to-me persimmon tomatoes, which are large and almost peach-colored, as well as Eureka lemons and Valencia oranges—essential, delicious workhorses.
