We caught up with Naharin just before he was to begin work with the couple on “Passo.” Their four performances will also include American premieres by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, of Belgian and Moroccan descent, and Portuguese dance-maker Arthur Pita.

If gyros, stuffed grape leaves, spanakopita, and an abundance of wine are on your list of favorite things, Orange County's 36th annual "A Taste of Greece" festival is the place to be June 27 through 29th at St. Paul's Greek Orthodox Church in Irvine. The festival is a Greek party: live music, authentic Greek dancing lessons—the wine will help with that—and boutique booths reminiscent of the Plaka, a well-known historical neighborhood of Athens. You'll even find authentic recipes for traditional Greek dishes, delicious pastries, and a wine "Taverna" offering Greek wine and beer.

The documentary, “American Wine Story,” is about people leaving their day jobs to risk following their dreams in the wine industry. But the heartfelt focus of the movie is Jimi Brooks. As the movie producers were interviewing many winemakers and growers, they kept hearing about the story of Jimi Brooks, a renowned winemaker who founded Brooks Winery in the Willamette Valley in 1998, but passed away in 2004 at the age of 38 from an aortic aneurysm. Subsequently, winemakers from all over the Willamette Valley gave their time to help save the winery, and the following year, a consortium was formed and the winery bequeathed to Brooks’ son, Pascal, who was 8 when his father died, becoming the youngest winery owner in the world.
Locals will get the rare chance to celebrate an Orange County film legend this month when the Newport Beach Film Festival spotlights the work of Laguna Beach's Greg MacGillivray and MacGillivray-Freeman Films, one of the world’s foremost independent producers and distributors of giant-screen 70mm films with 37 films for IMAX and other giant-screen theatres to its credit. Throughout the company’s 50-year history, its bigger-than-life films have won numerous international awards, including two Academy Award nominations, and had three of its films inducted into the IMAX Hall of Fame.
The Newport Beach Film Festival kicks off tonight, and not only are we a media sponsor, but tonight's opening-night film is particularly special to us: "Lovesick" is produced by Josh Goldstein, the son of Orange Coast executive vice president Linda Goldstein! Click here for info about the film.
