Longtime readers might know that Editor in Chief Martin Smith is actually on his second tour here at Orange Coast—he left in the late '90s to write the third book in a popular suspense thriller series he'd penned mostly while helming the mag (no, we don't know how he did it). While Smith wrote the fourth book in 2002, it was never published. Diversion Books has picked up the final book in the "Memory Series," and in advance of the fourth book's March release, is launching digital editions of the first three.
From the day in 2009 that I began work on a story for Orange Coast about the strange and wonderful Federal Duck Stamp Program, I've believed that the story someday should be told as a documentary film. First, I wrote it as a piece for the magazine, "The Wild Duck Chase." Then I wrote it as a book which is now available in both paperback and digital formats. (Here's the Amazon link.)

Our team tried nine different croissant-donut hybrids from five local bakeries--Pandor, The Donuttery, Paris Baguette, Café 109, and Kelly's Burgers & Donuts--and narrowed it down to three. We crowned Kelly's blueberry cronut the winner.
