Wineworks for Everyone in Mission Viejo is hosting a tasting on Sept. 14 featuring the wines of Jonata, the Hilt, and the Paring. These three Central Coast labels offer distinct experiences, yet all by the talents of Winemaker Matt Dees. Though taste, price, and terroir vary, all of the wines to be poured at the Wineworks event have garnered a rating of 90+ points from renowned critics like Jeb Dunnuck of the Wine Advocate and Antonio Galloni of Vinous Media. I have tasted many of these wines and was immediately in love with their elegance and personality. The Hilt Pinot Noir and the Paring Syrah were standouts for me.
Jonata: The wines under the Jonata label are all estate grown in the famed Ballard Canyon of Santa Ynez with a particular focus on cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, and syrah though white wines are produced as well. The Jonata wines are made with a focus on modern viticulture and dedication to creating the finest wine experience. Prices range from $55 to $140.
The Hilt: Featuring chardonnay and pinot noir, the Hilt wines are grown in the Santa Rita Hills and Santa Maria Valley. The name references the effort to hold nothing back in the quest for quality and expression. Prices range from $40 to $50.
The Paring: A tremendous value label for its high quality, the Paring produces a variety of pleasurable wines including chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, syrah, pinot noir, and a red blend. Prices range from $22 to $30.
