I love when social media is actually social. I have an Instagram account for this column, @ocwineblog, and I received a note there about an upcoming Wagner Family Wine Tasting. Orange County wine lovers are familiar with the Wagner Family portfolio of wines—Caymus, Conundrum, Mer Soleil, Emmolo, and more. These popular wines hail from Rutherford, Monterey, and across California. The family has built a loyal following with diverse wines, which are available in stores and restaurants throughout Orange County. I’ve been a fan of the unoaked Mer Soleil Chardonnay for years. But what caught my attention was the sender—Yves Restaurant & Wine Bar. Unfamiliar with Yves Restaurant in Anaheim, I asked to see the wine-tasting menu to see if anything caught my eye. Caught my eye it did!
Many tastings and classes denote the wines to be poured and say crackers or bread and a cheese plate is available, which is often bland food to soak up the alcohol. Yves Restaurant & Wine Bar promotes this Wagner Family of Wines Wine Class on June 28 as five tastings with tapas. This is cuisine thoughtfully paired to showcase the specific Wagner wine.
