Three Events to Celebrate Leap Day On Saturday

The last time leap day occurred on a Saturday was 1992. Before that? 1964. Basically, every 28 years, you get the chance to celebrate an extra 24 hours of February on a Saturday, so why not make the most of it? Here are three events this Saturday that are worth leaping into:

Beer: Karl Strauss Anaheim Leap Beer Dinner

When Karl Strauss brewer Jarrod Davis and chef Kevin Jones collaborate on a beer dinner, they tend to hop around the globe for inspiration. Each beer will showcase hops from all over the globe, be it Noble hops from Germany, tropical hops from down under, or the dank and fruity hops from the Pacific Northwest. From the kitchen, Belgian-style beer steamed mussels, lamb lollipops with lemongrass, and even cedar plank salmon doused with hop salt will pair with six beers. 2390 E. Orangewood Ave., Anaheim. Tickets $65+

Wine: Flemings Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar

The Leap in Time five-course wine dinner features the juice that put California wine on the map: Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1976, Stag’s Leap shocked the world at the Judgment of Paris, where French judges blindly picked the Napa winery’s Cab above prestigious first- and second-growth wines from their region. In 1978, the same tasting was replicated by a different set of judges in San Francisco, where it won again! The dinner here in Newport Beach features a welcome cocktail, a flight of four Stag’s Leap wines, and five courses of Fleming’s delicious food, including duck confit with cherry demi, prime New York Strip, and braised short rib. 455 Newport Center Drive, Newport Beach, Tickets $105+

Bacon and Cocktails: Huntington Beach Bacon and Booze Crawl

Leap day might just be the best excuse for a cheat day, and the promise of a pub crawl filled with crispy thick cuts of smoky bacon sounds like the best solution to any problem. Event registration comes with a shirt, a bacon flight, and access to five walkable spots such as Pacific Hideaway that has a special menu lined up, including bacon-wrapped dates, a bacon Old Fashioned, and even a smoky bacon michelada. Finish out the date with a DJ dance party to keep the leap party hopping! We Love Pub Crawls presents the inaugural Bacon & Booze Bar Crawl! 210 Fifth St., Huntington Beach. Tickets $26-33
