Summer: The Right Time for Rosé

It’s unofficially summer, and we’re more than ready to imbibe in wines for the season. Try one of these four rosé options—two from France and two from California—for your next leisurely glass outside.

For a light wine that will go with anything or just lift your spirits in the mid-afternoon, try La Domitienne Grenache Gris from the South of France. Envision yourself lounging poolside along the French Riviera. You’ll find it locally at Fable & Spirit in Newport Beach or at Wineworks for Everyone in Mission Viejo.

Sticking with the French theme, you should pick up Minuty Prestige, a pale pink beauty that incorporates notes of citrus. It’s a fresh taste that will pair with grilled fish nicely. This one is available at Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa, Envoyer Fine Wines in Irvine, Pacific Ranch Market in Orange, and Marbella Market in San Juan Capistrano.

If your inclination is to stick to California vintners, you can never go wrong with DAOU Family Estates. For this season, enjoy the Discovery Collection Rosé of 2019. This fragrant wine is crisp with flavors of strawberry throughout, plus the design on the bottle is whimsical and will make an impression at your next outdoor gathering. You can find it at Pacific Ranch Market in Orange, Irvine Ranch Market in Newport Beach, Chateaux Brix in Orange, and OC Wine Marts in Orange, Yorba Linda, and Aliso Viejo.

For a bolder rosé—even the color is a deeper pink than most—go for Aerena 2019 Rose from San Francisco Bay. This was the wine of the month in May at Hi-Time Wine Cellars, and it’s refreshing and solid. For those who normally go for a bigger taste, this might be the rosé for you. The funny label is a peek into your experience with this wine.
