When I first moved to Anaheim 14 years ago, the entire county had one production brewery. By the end of 2018, Orange County will easily top 40 local and independent beer makers…MIND BLOWN! Although these numbers are incredibly impressive, the number of actual beer bars that can pour all of this local delicious beer remains a relative rarity.

When a new beer bar opens in O.C., it’s kind of a big deal. Enter: the Promenade Pub. It just celebrated its grand opening on Center Street Promenade in the heart of downtown Anaheim on a rare rainy night. The husband-and-wife duo Mike and Sonya Kelsen are behind the new hoppy venture and are no strangers to serving fermented beverages in this area. They moved here several years ago and opened the wildly popular Colony Wine Merchant, a local spot beloved by winos far and wide and walking distance from the new pub.

The pub brings about two-dozen new taps to the area, pouring only Orange County-made beer, which the couple serves with their elevated pub grub. Think prime rib, pulled pork, fried chicken sandwiches paired with several salads, desserts, and tater tots worthy of “Napoleon Dynamite.” The full menu rolls out later this week and the beer list is ever-rotating.

The dog-friendly outdoor patio seats around 20. Inside, alternative rock from the 90s to 2000s can be heard amidst the friendly neighborhood chatter. The beer list seems like it’s still in soft-opening mode, but has a good balance of styles, alcohol strengths, and hoppiness. The pub brings a nice alternative to the Anaheim Packinghouse madness, which has semi-comfortable parking in the nearby parking structure. Anaheim Resort Transit also makes a stop on Center Street, which makes it a perfect spot to visit before Angels and Ducks games, or you can simply watch the game on their TV’s.
The Promenade Pub is at 215 S. Anaheim Blvd. at Center Street, Anaheim
