Yes it’s quite early to plan your gift list, but the coming season of Broadway shows at Segerstrom Center for the Arts includes a plan for nearly every holiday, if live theater is a highlight for your family, as it is for mine! I’m always eager to learn which shows are coming next season, and this one doesn’t disappoint.
With “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas” in December, “Disney’s The Lion King” at Valentine’s Day, and “Disney’s Aladdin” for Mother’s Day, the season lines up perfectly for celebrating beloved events with shows perfect for little ones and kids at heart. Throw in “Ain’t Too Proud,” “Funny Girl,” “MJ,” “Clue,” and “Beetlejuice” and a few more generations of pop culture will be featured on the stage in Costa Mesa in the 2023-24 season. Rounding out the 10-show bonanza are “Les Miserables” and “Peter Pan,” classic stories that will take on new staging here.

I’ve heard raves from many friends about “Ain’t Too Proud,” and if last month’s “Frozen” is any indication of what Disney shows can do, Aladdin and The Lion King will wow with surprises and awe-inspiring effects. The winner of four Tony awards, including best choreography, “MJ” is sure to leave audiences reaching for their dancing shoes. And I’m eager to have a special holiday occasion for dressing up and being inspired all over again by the classic Grinch story, brought to life on stage. We have a wealth of riches heading our way again! You can learn more at scfta.org.
