5 Items From the Secret ‘Secret Menu’ at In-N-Out

Over the years, the In-N-Out faithful have fueled their obsession by concocting odd special-order variations on the chain’s famously minimalist fare. The so-called “secret menu” is such a familiar part of In-N-Out’s identity that the company publishes its own version with items such as the animal-style burger, which features mustard cooked into the patty. But here are a few even more offbeat secrets, gleaned from fan websites.

  • The Flying Dutchman
Two beef patties sandwiched around a slice of melted cheese.
  • Fries Animal Style
A variation of the animal-style-burger, except that cheese, onions and ketchup and/or mustard are melted into the mix.
  • 2x4
Two patties with four slices of cheese.
  • Wish Burger
Just the bun and lettuce—named with an arcane reference to the lyrics of the 1956 do-wop song “Rubber Biscuit,” revived a quarter-century later by the Blues Brothers.
  • Monkey Style
Reports of a bizarre burger topped with French fries, cheese, grilled onions, and In-N-Out’s salad dressing spread circulated through the news media last year, but don’t try ordering it. The Los Angeles Daily News exposed the Monkey-Style burger as an Internet hoax that In-N-Out won’t make. (Even so, it sounds delicious.)
