ATP Clinical Research
Pacific Neuropsychiatric Specialists
While presenting work at the World Congress of Genetic Psychopharmacology in Berlin, Germany in 1995, Dr. Gus Alva recognized the need for pushing neuroscience forward and incorporating imaging technology, genetics and their correlation with the clinical outcome of interventions in highly disabling medical problems affecting the brain. Since then he has been involved with the most pivotal and cutting-edge work in neuropsychiatry and has helped with reducing stigma, and helping to foster a better understanding of medical problems involving the brain. That epiphany of educating colleagues and the community has propelled him to become one of the most sought after educators in the country and even the world in the field of psychiatry. This distinct honor greatly benefits the patients that he treats locally.
Dr. Alva is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (the Association’s highest honor) and is boarded by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Geriatrics. Dr. Alva is the founder and medical director of ATP Clinical Research, the premier private neuropsychiatric clinical research company in OC focused on new treatments for a variety of conditions. Current studies involve the use of novel medications and diagnostic approaches for Alzheimer’s disease, Mild Cognitive Impairment, Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Generalized Anxiety, Schizophrenia and Traumatic Brain Injury. Dr. Alva is a regularly invited speaker at both national and international conferences as well as national radio and television programs in the US and abroad. Prior to founding ATP Clinical Research, he served as Associate Professor and Deputy Director in the Department of Psychiatry at the UC, Irvine Medical Center where he currently serves as part of the volunteer faculty training newer residents.
Additionally, he is a past-president of the Orange County Psychiatric Society, as well as a founding member of the International College of Geriatric Psychopharmacology. Dr. Alva is on the Medical/Scientific Advisory Board of the Alzheimer’s Association of Orange County. Dr. Alva collaborates with Pacific Neuropsychiatric Specialists (PNS) in Costa Mesa and the city of Orange, which provides high quality psychiatric treatment for children, adolescents, adults and seniors. PNS integrates the latest advances in psychotherapy, Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) and psychopharmacology when treating individuals.
