Grab Your Boards: International Surfing Day Is June 20
The Surfrider Foundation’s International Surfing Day is happening next Friday in Orange County—and across the globe. You don’t have to surf to enjoy the celebration. The nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection of our oceans is sponsoring an international waterways photo contest while our local chapters host a couple of events.
Surfrider’s “My Special Place” Instagram contest invites people everywhere to take a photo of their favorite local lake, river, beach, ocean, or other body of water and post it to their Instagram. Post to your own account June 20 through 22 with the name and location (city, state, country) of the photo, and tag @Surfrider with the hashtags #ISD14 and #MySpecialPlace. Three winners announced June 24 will receive a prize package that includes a Surfrider Foundation membership, Firewire surfboard, Billabong wetsuit, Spy sunglasses, Volkswagen and ZeeBerry.com gear, and more!
On June 20 at noon, the South OC chapter is hosting a beach cleanup and other events at the Surfing America USA Championships at Lower Trestles, San Onofre State Beach in San Clemente. More info at surfrider.org/southorangecounty or contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Huntington Beach will celebrate a day later, June 21, beginning at 8 a.m. with beach cleanups, surf paddle-outs, yoga, surf industry displays, music, and more on the north side of the pier.
Summer’s here! Let’s get out and surf!
