To look forward, sometimes you have to look back. Or so real estate website Zillow suggests in naming midcentury modern one of its top five design trends for 2015. The footnote? Go light on midcentury furnishings or the look will overtake your home. It’s all about minimalism.

“The midcentury movement focused on form and function,” says Richard Bustos, design consultant at Cantoni in Irvine. “Less clutter and more open spaces. Stay true to that philosophy and keep it simple. It’s about curating the ideal mix.”

In Orange County, an array of properties exhibit the clean lines, open spaces, and large windows of midcentury style. Some date to the mid-20th century, and others were built more recently.

Trees tower over this two-story Anaheim Hills home, sitting behind a gated entry on more than half an acre. The 1965 house on South Via Vista Road counts four bedrooms and four baths in 3,450 square feet, plus two garage spaces. The kitchen has granite countertops and solid wood cabinets, and there’s a spa in the landscaped and hard-scaped backyard. Chris McKeen, 714-921-9457
