Lead singer of Young the Giant, on success and giving back

From their breakout performance at the MTV Video Music Awards to a world tour with Incubus, last year was a roaring success for 22-year-old Gadhia and his band. Their hit single, “Cough Syrup,” reached No. 3 on Billboard’s alternative chart. Yet the Irvine native is more focused on giving back to the community that nurtured his talents than wallowing in newfound fame. Gadhia, who has been performing since he was 16, is playing benefit concerts with his four bandmates for the Irvine Public School Foundation. They hope to fund district music programs and give aspiring young musicians the same opportunities they had.
