I’ve Been Looking For…Walt Disney Arcana
Of course, there’s Disneyland. But there’s a little bit of Walt’s California beginnings up the road in Garden Grove. That’s where you’ll find the modest garage he used as his first workspace when he and brother Roy moved from Kansas City in 1923.
Walt, who was broke at the time, was staying with his uncle Robert Disney in North Hollywood. In the nondescript garage, the budding animator, director, and entrepreneur spent a few months developing the animation machine that would help him make his fortune.
By 1981, the largely forgotten building was to be torn down, but a group that included pop idol Bobby Sherman raised money to rescue it, and donated the white clapboard garage to the Garden Grove Historical Society in 1984.
