Savory Spice Becoming a One-Stop

The seasonings specialist will close in Corona del Mar, but its Costa Mesa store carries on with a full line

oc spice shop This might well give Orange County cooks pause: “We’ve had a wonderful 5-1/2 years in Corona del Mar,” says Savory Spice Shop owner Laura Shute, when asked about the June 19 closing of her Newport Beach location.

But, no worries! Shute’s merely consolidating her stores, and little-but-mighty sister Savory Spice Stop in Costa Mesa’s The OC Mix will carry on as usual for all your herb, spice, and seasoning needs. So, no break in the spice supply chain. I’m as glad as anyone else, since I’m very partial to Savory Spice’s Santa Maria-style seasoning for grilled tri-tip—so good in my Viet-Central Coast mashup banh mi.

It’s been a good run in Corona del Mar, but the simpatico between Savory Spice and the food-forward Costa Mesa center is undeniable. “The complementary businesses at SoCo and The OC Mix are great companions for our customers,” Shute says. “Stores like the Cheese Shop, We Olive, The Mixing Glass, and Surfas make it such a great foodie destination. We hope our Corona del Mar customers will drive the 10 minutes to come see us!” And for those further afield, don’t forget that, as always, the store is happy to ship your selections from its super-fresh stock right to your door.
