Splitsville for Haven Gastropub and Taco Asylum

Haven Collective to run the Orange gastropub and Provisions Market, Costa Mesa New Age taco joint getting a retool

Change is afoot for the Haven Collective, founders of Orange’s pioneering Haven Gastropub, who last year opened Provisions Market a few blocks away from the restaurant in Old Towne Orange. A Pasadena location, Haven Gastropub & Brewery, has closed for financial reasons, and partner Ace Patel has left the group. Patel will retain Costa Mesa’s Taco Asylum.

No interruption in craft beer or Haven Burger or New Age taco service is anticipated, however. Partners Greg Daniels and Wil Dee will concentrate on the Old Towne Orange properties—they’ve already bought Provisions Market, and are finalizing the purchase of Haven Gastropub.

Patel plans to entirely revamp the Taco Asylum menu, including expanding it with more vegetarian and seafood options. Old favorites could show up in a rotating specials slot. “I’m excited,” he says. “We’re going to listen to our customers, and make it a more comfortable experience. I want Taco Asylum to be the taco destination for Orange County.” Patel foresees big things for Taco Asylum’s future—after he’s satisfied with the reboot he’d like multiple locations.

Even the restaurant logo and website can expect a refresh. Patel figures it might take 30 days to get all his ducks, not to mention tortillas, in a row before he rolls out his changes. O.C. taco fans will be counting the days.
