Early Bird Spreads Its Wings With New Chef, Second Location
Early Bird, Fullerton’s popular neo-retro breakfast-lunch and sometime-dinner place, has a new chef: Tim Anderson, a Playground veteran who cooked in France before working in the kitchens of Michelin-starred Joachim Splichal and David Myers. He takes over from Frank DeLoach, who’s now executive chef at Belmont Shore gastropub Tavern on 2. Dinner service at Early Bird, recently on hiatus, is expected to resume as early as next month with new menus from Anderson, and will be a few nights a week on a reservation-only basis.
But a new chef isn’t the only Early Bird news. A second location, in the works in Yorba Linda for a while now, could open April, with full-service breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For this outpost in The Land of Gracious Living, Early Bird is also installing an on-site third-wave coffee roastery, with the same high-quality beans from Placentia-based Bodhi Leaf Coffee Traders that Early Bird fans already know and love. The café-coffee connection was actually inked when Early Bird partner Tank Menzies and Bodhi Leaf owner Steve Sims met through their mutual tattoo artist. The new space, at 21550 Yorba Linda Blvd., will have seating and work areas where customers can indulge in a little café life, or wait for a table in the restaurant with a pour-over, siphon, or espresso drink.
