There’s Savory With the Sweet at Westminster’s Au Coeur de Paris
In Westminster the other week, we stopped into Au Coeur de Paris for our very favorite pate chaud in Little Saigon. The pork-stuffed puff pastries ($1.25) were excellent as ever. But I saw something in the case I hadn’t before—small individual quiches, in two varieties: vegetable, with asparagus and cheese ($1.50), and classic Lorraine, with ham and onion ($2). They were fantastic—exceptionally creamy filling cradled in a sturdy butter-rich crust. Au Cœur de Paris is known for its sweet pastries, and the macarons ($1.50), in a rainbow of flavors, are something of a specialty. But I love the shop’s savories—which also include good banh mi on a very respectable baguette.
