Always let your passion for wines show
I love Italian wine and never feel I know enough about them. So when I went to Capone’s in Huntington Beach, right, and found a list full of tempting Italian selections I was delighted. Connected with a waitress there, Diana, and she told me they would be hosting a wine dinner soon. I gave her my number and she called to let me know it’s on July 25. How’s that for service? Always let your passion for wine show, I say.
The restaurant is charming. Usually I go to Alessá, which is just a few blocks from my house. But this restaurant really impressed me, not just with the cuisine but with their friendly service—you don’t expect such outstanding quality in a strip mall next to Kinko’s and Albertson’s. They’ve got another little neighborhooder called Mona Lisa just a few miles away on Adams Ave. So I’m dying to check that one out too.
Anyway, the six-course menu ($64.95) will showcase Italian wines: Borgo Magredo Prosecco NV, Veneto; Feudi di San Gregorio Falanghina, 2009 Campania; Planeta La Segreta Rosso 2009, Sicilia; Fantinel Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 Veneto; and Castello Monaci Negroamaro 2007 Puglia. I promise the food will be delicious: calamari appetizer, ravioli, rib-eye, and a cheese plate. At this point I have no one to go with, husband outta town, friends busy but I might just show up alone. So if you see a goofy lady with a notebook dining solo, stop by and say, “Hi!” and let me know which wines you like best.—Anne Valdespino
