The nation’s fastest male texter, by the numbers

Like most of his peers, 16-year-old Brandon loves his cellphone. “I got my first one in the fifth grade, and I’ve had one within arm’s reach ever since,” he says. This explains the Yorba Linda High School junior’s appearance in “Thumbs,” last year’s MTV documentary about the LG U.S. National Texting Championship. A purist who shuns text shorthand, Brandon was the last male standing—and leading the contest—when he was booted for an error, putting an extra T in “the bogus word tex@bility.” Does the newly licensed driver text behind the wheel? “It’s not worth the risk.”
