For Mother’s Day, it’s only proper that we admire, pamper, and appreciate the most impactful people in our lives with incredible drinks. Here are five sure-fire Mom wins for great cocktails in Orange County:
Farmhouse at Roger’s Gardens is probably one of the most mom-filled restaurants in Orange County…so much so that they have a drink on the menu called Mamma Needs Another Drink. The cocktail is a blend of three native California ingredients: grapefruit liqueur, Red Aperativo, and fresh juice. I’m a huge fan of three-ingredient cocktails that have a huge depth of flavor, and Momma keeps on giving with so much packed into each ingredient.
For my recent birthday, I wanted something festive, and El Mercado’s Peace & Love was just the drink. Although it’s violet and fruity looking, a healthy dose of smoke from El Silencio Mezcal balances out the tamarind, hibiscus, lemon, and honey. The kicker? A sprig of thyme is lit on delivery, reminding you that just like life, you’re running out of time.
If your mom likes truly great drinks, it’s all about Vaca. With the recent Kentucky Derby, there’s no better time to bust out mom’s fancy hat again, and tip back a Keeneland. The drink is bright and refreshing with kumquat shrub, Wild Turkey 101, and house-made vermouth. It’s so easy drinking, it’s almost a race to the finish.
If you have a big group with kiddos in tow, try renting a Duffy boat and cruise the Newport Harbor with flutes of Champagne. Be sure to take advantage of Lighthouse Newport Beach’s “Dock and Dine” feature, where you can pull up the boat for a hearty Mason jar full of Buddy’s Bloody Mary and their epic blueberry mascarpone pancakes. Sip away while the kids play in the nearby sand lighthouse!
If mom’s in the mood for bottomless Champagne drinks and a full menu of outstanding cocktails, Seal Beach’s 320 Main is my choice, where a measly $10 gets your special lady bottomless mimosas made with cran-pomegranate and passionfruit-pineapple juices. Pair it with their Lobster Benny to make mom all kinds of happy!
